[Competition] Gareth Cliff on Everything

Last week a delivery took place at my desk.  In it, 2 copies of Gareth Cliff’s new book.

I’ve always been a fan of Gareth Cliff, proof is right here.  When I moved from the South Coast to Durban, it was Gareth’s morning show on 5fm that kept me going.  It was just one new addition to my new adult life that I fell in love with while becoming a Durban local.

Not for one second am I denying the fact that Gareth can be a douche, but what I love about him is that he’s the first to admit when he’s being an arsehole, and then he carries on anyway.  His book is no different, I’m on page 122 at the moment and so far I’m really enjoying his opinions, even if I disagree with more than half of them.

As I said earlier, I’ve got 2 copies.  I’m going to keep the first copy, mostly because I’ve already messed tomato sauce on page 47, but also because Gareth’s chapters are so short that they’re perfect to read while having a quick loo break, or smoke outside.  The second copy, however, I am going to give away right here.

I’ll be posting a proper review of the book and then announcing a winner of the 2nd copy on Friday, so until then, you need to comment here and tell me the one thing that stands out for you when it comes to Gareth.

Do you love/hate/envy/abhor him?  Comment now & you could win your own copy [without a tomato sauce stain] of Gareth Cliff on Everything.  Hell, I’ll even write you a personalised letter inside the book if you want.

What’s your story?

  1. Laura says:

I have always had some what of a crush on the Cliff – even managed to meet him at a ladies night and said the obligatory stupid statement of the year – am actually glad he has no idea who I am because I STILL cringe 3 years later!

SOOO I would love a copy of the book

  2. Mia says:

Although Gareth has very strong and sometimes strange opinions, he thinks about things, and encourages his listeners think too. And there is very little thinking happening in the world today.

    • Shebee says:

You should see his opinion about abortion – a controversial subject and one close to my heart, but it made me literally LOL. I even read the chapter out loud to Jon.

  3. Jodi says:

I love GC (thats what i affectionatey call him). Not only is he entertaining on radio but he speaks his mind and in the society that is SA this is a rareity. I would love to read this book and see what he has to say. Gareth gets me through the morning with his 5FM show,,please give me his book to get me through the evenings too 🙂

  4. Siobhan says:

Firstly if I win, I DO want the personalised letter in the book please 🙂 ta!

I do love Gareth. I’m 23 now and I’ve been listening to him since I was 13!
I even have stashed away a few emails that I’d written him when I was a teenie bobber. It wasn’t the best of writing (to someone) but I’ve always loved him because he says what’s on his mind, no bars held and yes, if he’s wrong, he’ll admit it.
I’ve always taken him with a pinch of salt and I think that’s why I enjoy his show.
I’ve also always loved how he stands up for the way he feels, ie: the letter he wrote to government!
He just seems like the most amazing guy and my mornings are never complete without listening to him.
Before I sound like a deranged, crazy stalker fan by expressing my undying love for him, I will now sign off!!

  5. Nayes says:

The first time I ever heard Gareth on the radio, my instinctual reaction was “what the fuck?” It hasn’t changed much since then.

  6. annette says:

I am a big fan of Gareth and his morning show on 5FM. I enjoy his show because he talks about intereseting issues of the day and even if you don’t always agree with his opinion, he makes you think about things. A lot of the presenters on other morning shows just talk about fluff.

  7. Marc says:

I would love to read this book. His opinions are always pretty valid, and as far as I know he has 2 degrees, and is pretty sharp with most things 🙂

  8. Angel says:

Some days he makes me want to change the channel, but as full of shit as he can be he makes his listeners think first instead of running off on a tangent about something that really isn’t important.

  9. BiancaW says:

    Pick me! Pick me!

Everyone has already stolen EVERYTHING that I was going to say, so I am resorting to begging!

    Pleeeeeeeeeeaaaassee pick me!

I will sleep with Gareth’s book under my pillow – like – for-EVA!!

  10. Katleho says:

What I like about Gareth is that even when you don’t agree with his opinion, he knows how to defend his opinions and beliefs instead of caving in every time someone disagrees! This for more has inspired me to have a backbone and the fact that his well read has always helped in motivating me and my flat mate to purchase books! His perspective on politics is quiet objective at times and that is a breath of fresh air on my part
