Brandon Gates. Policeman shot. The Media Release.

To put you in the picture of what I’m on about (in case you hadn’t heard yet) read here and here.  I’ve just sent this out to all the media publications asking my family for a statement:

With a collection of sunken hearts and hopeful minds, we drove through to meet our boy Brandon at Kingsway Hospital where we were told he was critical and to get family members there as soon as possible.  We assumed the worst and we were totally and utterly devestated that our oldest brother, dearest son and most responsible family member was in such life danger.

Coming from such a big and unique family, us siblings grew up as best friends and have become a formidable team to beat.  Once each of us had taken a turn to see our brother, we stood in a circle, along with our parents and members of his police unit and prayed for the best.  News got around in this small little town of ours, as well as on facebook and other social media entities such as Twitter and soon enough, my brother was the topic of most discussion, the benefact in group prayer the world over, and we most certainly felt the support and comfort from the South Coast.

What criminals don’t seem to realize is that in harming not only a human being, but a police officer et al, an entire community of people, families, friends and collegues are affected.  The side effects are without doubt; devestation, anxiety to the highest degree and ultimately, immense sadness.  How many police officers are we prepared to watch die at the hands of these people who have no regard for human life?  When will the Governement start taking better action with regards to necessary equipment that the force needs?

After being stabilised and then transported to St. Augustines HospitWe are so happy to let the people behind us know that Brandon has defied all odds and is breathing on his own despite taking a bullet through his lung.  He has no brain damage or long term head trauma due to two bullets through his face and skull.  Although he remains critical in his condition, he is communicating with his family when he’s not sedated and even smirking at one or two of his brothers’ wise cracks and jokes about being thick skinned and bull headed.  We are hoping that he will show signs of full lucidity in the next few days and to hear his voice reprimanding or teasing one of us soon.

Our greatest appreciation and thanks to everyone who has reached out in any way, we will be forever grateful and continue to ask for your prayers and positive thoughts in what we are confident will be Brandon’s speedy recovery.

Sheena Gates, on behalf of The Gates/Ross Clan.

That’s about all, really.  My Baboo will be fine, we all know it in our hearts.  Keep him in your thoughts please, readers.

Brandon and Nero, his partner in crime (literally)

Firstly, Nero is fine.  He sat on my brother after the shots were fired and just licked him and cried.  He wouldn’t let anyone come near his Robocop Chop.  Eventually Kenneth (Brand’s partner) removed Nero.  Brand was covered in dog hair when he arrived at Kingsway.

I’ve been at the hospital since I got here on Monday night.  I finally have my laptop with me, including internet connection to inform friends and family internationally (and lets face it, to twitter.  Twitter is my outlet at the moment).  I’m camping out on an awesome overgrown couch when I’m not in the ICU unit.  My mom is here with me but the alarms and bells terrify her, so I’m pretty much being the translater between the doctors/nurses/medical jargon and human speak in the waiting room.  Thank fuck for my experience with Kiera in NICU for so many months and for working under a doctor all those years before. I haven’t slept yet and I seriously don’t need to right now – pure adrenaline has me going.  I’m sure I’ll crash soon though, don’t stress.

I do have accomodation, so does my family, we are pretty much sorted in every way we could be.  My dad is flying in from Australia with the last of my siblings (Ash) and my awesome step mommy, Trace.  They land tomorrow evening.  The only thing you can do?  Send my brother some love.

He needs it.  He deserves it.  And by god, if I know him at all, I know he bloody wants it.

    Hey Sheena,

I’ve been following the trauma and progress of Brandon, it’s so sad that there is no respect for police men in our country.

Hope Brandon has a quick and full recovery, and that he and Nero are back out there soon.

    Best wishes

Shebee glad to hear he is getting better and better yet to hear that his shot killed that uncivilised no for good oxygen thief, even though you no longer our flattie (flat mate) you and the rest of the Gates/Ross clan are always welcome to stay with us during this emotional roller coaster ride.

Seeing him in that state on Monday night and the presence of the clan, I knew such love and care would bring him back from where doctors thought it was medically impossible. I will never forget that pray your mom did in the hospital. Tell the clan we send our loves. Oh and I dont think Im bringing flowers or a teddy bear, I’ll bring a six pack of castle. Okay I wont, ILL BRING A CASE THEN ;P.

Tell your mom to go sleep now God is watching over him. See you tomorrow guys.

    Love Kords and Sera
