Things I desperately want right now:

By Shebee  //  Uncategorized  //  6 Comments

1. A fireplace. With gas to power it so the whole house doesn’t smell like a Zulu khaya.
2. A bigger kitchen, with more kitchen cupboards and counter space.
3. A bunch of bananas that are neither frot, nor ripe.
4. More tights. I live in tights these days. They’re perfect for winter, comfortable as hell and go with most of my shirts and jerseys.
5. Gum boots that fit my calf muscles. I’ve always had large calf muscles, but now they’re just ridiculous.
6. The ability to cut off all cravings when it’s that time of the month. Good god, if it’s made of sugar and it stands still long enough, I will inhale it.
7. More socks. I don’t have enough socks in my life. Or 3/4 pantyhose.
8. An aqua coloured nail polish.
9. An iPad 3. Because the 2 is already in our house, and the 3 is the next one out, thereby making me more superior to Jon by having a gadget later in edition than his.
10. Longer weekends. They go by so quickly these days.

Terribly exciting blog post, do hold yourselves back.

Bush breakaway

By Shebee  //  Uncategorized  //  8 Comments

I’ve lost my camera.  I’m so bummed, because not only are there pictures of elephants, rhinos and a few squillion bokke, but there are photos of the bed, the buffet and the blankets we needed to keep warm.  And that was probably the highlight of the weekend: cold, blankets, bed of awesome.

Bakubung was a dream.  Jon and I relaxed to the max and ate more than I’ve ever eaten ever.  The lodge is quiet, peaceful and beautiful.  We had a room with a balcony that overlooked the park and left the doors open despite the cold just to hear the sounds of nature.  I wish I was back there, the first few days back at work have been rough!

I’m still sitting with flu that refuses to go away.  Just as I seem to be getting better, I suddenly get worse again and I find myself reading random online forums and personal opinion sites. I suppose it also didn’t help that I sat on a game drive in the icy wind at night with nothing on but a thin layer of clothes, one poncho and some stylish shoes.

We almost got stampeded by a rhino.  It was facing us not 2 meters in front of the “safari bus”, as the obnoxious American tourist insisted on calling our game vehicle.    Also, the game driver (named Jan-Hendrik, I’m not even making this up) decided that instead of us experiencing a luxurious tour through the park, we needed to chase lions.  May I point out at this stage that although he attempted his very best, despite u-turning 4 times and driving up and down one part of the park, in the freezing cold, we did not even glimpse a fokken lion.

And then we got a flat tyre.

The next morning Jon and I took a drive out to Sun Village in pursuit of a pharmacy before I jumped off the balcony in frustration with all the snots, coughs and phlegm coming out of my body.

Regardless, it was an amazing weekend.  I’m trying to convince Jon that we neeeeed to buy timeshare.  I want to go back often.  We really shouldn’t wait until the brink of insanity before allowing ourselves a break from the real world.  This one was close, I won’t lie.

And thus ends the traveling period for a while.  Shew.  Cape Town, Joburg, Durban, Joburg, Pilansberg, Joburg.  I’m tired of travelling, it will be good to spend this weekend at home for the first time in about 6 weeks!

Before I end off, I just want to say you should seriously consider booking yourself a holiday.  Especially at Bakubung.  Here is their website.

If nothing else…

By Shebee  //  Uncategorized  //  4 Comments

You witnessed years of me and unhappiness being intertwined and linked.

You witnessed my daughter dying.

You witnessed my single years of party, hook-up’s, moving house, listening to music and collecting animals.

You witnessed me being broke, losing my home, selling my furniture, breaking my leg, my foot, my heart and probably my brain, all too often.

You witnessed me laughing and dancing and crying and screaming.

You witnessed my family falling apart.

You witnessed me getting drunk and not being able to do up my shjips.

You’ve witnessed so much.

But although you’ve witnessed much, you’ve missed most of it. You’ve ignored so much.  You’ve also demanded so much.

You’ve missed me falling in love deeply and maturely.

You’ve missed me growing up.

You’ve missed me becoming an adult.

You’ve missed meeting my new friends.

You’ve missed seeing me settle into this new life.

You’ve missed knowing me and who I am now.

You’ve missed so much more than you’ve witnessed.

I’m not sure who is to blame anymore.  But I feel the loss of you, and I try not to be angry because anger is a wasted emotion.  I miss you, but I don’t miss you.  It’s a relief beyond belief not being an active part of your life.

I hope you’re happy though, wherever you are in life.  Sincerely, I mean that.

If nothing else, and in case you’re worried now of not witnessing, just know that I can say that I’m a blessed, loved, happy, very grateful girl.

An aside…

By Shebee  //  Uncategorized  //  2 Comments

*skype conversation*

Sheena: Does Cape Town not believe in white sugar?

Rozz:  There should be some “organic” white sugar Im sure?

Sheena: nothing.  not in the conference centre, nor my hotel room, nor THREE of the restaurants i went to today.

Rozz: maybe they want you to have green tea?

Sheena: sies.  they’ll be having me smoke hemp on the mountain next, bru.

Am currently on conference at the CTICC.  Let me just say one thing: Being SheBee all day leaves Sheena exhausted by night.  Even if it’s super fun, I’m glad I don’t do these meet up social things with online people very often.

It’s been a whirlwind of a week.  Every single night since last Monday I’ve been busy, out of the house, aka not in bed slothing like I’m supposed to when I’m not working like a miner.  On the plus side, this weekend was great, Jon’s birthday dinner on Friday was lots of fun.  Even with the bottle of chocolate coffee tequila.  Especially because my baby sister Ash just waltsed into the house like she visits every day.  What an awesome surprise!

She spent the weekend with us, and on Saturday night we went to Movida.  Puke in my mouth, what a kak thing to have to do.  How did I ever go clubbing and actually enjoy it?  My feet hurt like a bitch in the heels I was wearing (even with KIWI gel pads), the music was too loud, the clubbers were boring and it was a big meat market actually.  I climbed into bed that night very, very glad that I’m not single.

Anyway, it’s now Wednesday and I am in Cape Town.  For a cool social media world forum in Africa conference.

I fly home late tomorrow night, just in time to kiss my Jon and fall into bed exhausted only to wake up and go to work so I can then board yet another plane to fly to Durban for the weekend.

I’m really looking forward to the 16th.   We’ll be in the bush, in the middle of nowhere, doing as little as possible while hearing lions roar and zebras mate.

Awesome.
